The High Cost of Movers

Just got told it would cost me $2400 (before GST) to move a bed, 4 bookshelves, a fridge, a washer & a dryer… & they’re ‘out’ of packing boxes so won’t be able to provide them (for books, clothes etc) before the targeted Monday move.

That’s $1,700 for ‘contents’ bulked up by insurance, extra charge of $150 for the stairs, charge for the little tractor like machine they have to use to ferry my stuff to the lift lobby because the car park isn’t high enough to accomodate the moving truck…

Feel like it might make more financial sense (all my stuff is old after all) to leave everything behind & spend $2400 on new things!

But after the shock I’m getting a couple more quotes tomorrow so we’ll see…

  1. Hey vid, i think they’re overcharing you!!! An update, i been working on my storyboard, so that erm……maybe just maybe i’ll finish it………..

  2. THANK YOU Tym!!

I called 2 more moving companies yesterday, they’re coming to look in today–but will give Jenny Movers a call if neither feels right because a recommendation always seems to work out better than a google search!

  3. Hiya,

I moved earlier this year: bed, fridge, microwave, TV, washer, dryer, wardrobe, chest of drawers, 4 tall bookshelves and 4 short ones, plus 30-something boxes. It cost me under $1,000 (no insurance, no tractor-like machine, but added costs for the stairs at both old and new places). Try Jenny Movers, 6243 9378.

I can’t believe your stuff is so much less than what I moved, yet would cost three times more!
